Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had blogs in the past. Remember Live Journal? That didn’t last too long so I figured, “what’s the point?” Fast forward 12 years later and I’m at the point in my life where there’s a lot of uncertainty. Take a quick look at this and you’ll know exactly what I face. The prospect of stagnating is an extremely frightening concept to me. My entire college life has been a whirlwind of one new experience after other, opportunity after opportunity. I acknowledge that this is largely due to the environment provided at RIT. The amount of opportunities available at RIT is mind-boggling and it is a real shame far too few people take advantage of them.

This is one of the many reasons why I decided to pursue my career as a writer or an editor as opposed to teaching. I have developed many wonderful friendships and as result have become familiar with people in the teaching professions. My mother is a wonderful teacher and many of my role models (Kay Anderson and Laurie Drago of University High School to name two) are teachers as well. As result, I’ve become very familiar with the world of education, especially being a part of it for nearly all of my life.

Editing, however, is a whole another ballgame. I know very few editors, very few writers, and even less role models in the career. My internship at the Democrat and Chronicle was nothing short of exhilarating. The story of how I got the internship is even more sensational. But that’s for another post, there’s plenty of nostalgia to go around. In short, I’m challenging myself by building my career as a writer and an editor in an especially difficult economic climate, because I believe my passion for this is real. I see enormous opportunity to be a part of a new era for media.

Thus, this blog was born. I’m dedicating myself to this blog as a way of challenging myself as a creative writer, as a way to market myself, and as a way to share my experience with others who may find themselves on a similar path.
